I don't know anything about the life threatening anaphylactic shock thing but my son's doctor told us to try similac lactose free because he was having gas and constipation problems. He seemed to always be pushing/grunting and just all around uncomfortable. It seemed to work and we've been on it for awhile now. He's definitely more regular then he was but now that we've also started solids, he seems to go more then once a day. I hope this helps.

Actually, lactose is necessary for babies. Lactose intolerance usually only starts in young adulthood and *cannot* start before age 3-4. And lactose is the main reason that breastfed babies have softer bowel movements (but *not* diarrhea) than babies fed on formula (formulas usually have low levels of lactose because other sugars are cheaper, so manufacturers use them instead).

all 3 of my children were on lactose free formula till they were-1 It does help with the fussiness and gas .But they were all constipated.I always put 1tsp.of white corn syrup in an 8 oz bottle of water warm or cold whatever your child likes . with in a day he/she should be able to go with no problem. You should also get low iron it's the iron that makes them constipated.

I have tried the lactose and soy milk because my baby seemed to have problems digesting her formula. The soy and lactose free brands both made her worse and even more gassy. I went to Similac Advanced and along with milk gave her 8oz. of water every day. On days she could not go to the bathroom I was told to put some Caro syrup in with her milk to help her pass. You could also try putting a warm wash cloth over the belly and leave it there. There are also massages you can perform on the lower part of the babies stomach to help them pass more regularly. Look it up on the net or ask your pediatrician about them. Its really helpful instead of ingesting your baby with all kinds of things just to make them pass a bowel.

My twins were both on Lactose Free and never had problems with it. I have to say that my son used Carnation Good Start and I still think this is the absolute best formula ever made. It was a godsend! ## I wanted to add that my oldest daughter had constipation from birth also and we finally got it under control last year-when she was 10!! If it doesn't clear up in the next few months, insist on seeing a GI doc. Trust me when I say it will be an absolute hell if you don't get it resolved right away.

Our doctor told us for our twins constipation (they were so bad when they pushed they bled) put 1/2 teaspoon of brown sugar in warm water 2x a day. You could also go to your doctor and ask for an ***** to help. It's frustrating isn't it? Your baby is in pain, and all you want to do is help, but you can't.

Trust your doctor in what he says about formula. They usually are pretty good in keeping up with what the forumlas are. You could try asking for a pediatrician if your doctor is just a GP - that might get you somewhere.

Good luck with your baby!
